Maison à Bordeaux
Reading Pod - The idea is to create a space in Maison à Bordeaux which will represent the acces to the knoledge - here represented by the acces to reading - for that pupose is generated a soft, flexible and ergonimic space integrated in the bookshelf that will allow the user to feel confortable and to find a place where books - so is knowledge - is all around him. This pod is specially created for those who are getting into reading, kids. This way the reading pod represents an intimate place to have a tight contact with reading but also a place to share with other users enriching the activity of reading where everyone can find his own stance.

Aim is to transform a 20th centruy house into a 21st one. According to this, reserach about cultural facts was done to develop more information about how to transform the house due to the needs of the residents.
As a fact, in those proposals, rather than dealing with seating as a usual action it was aimed to have a progress to develop a design for 21st century's architecture.
As a result, ultimate feel of the nature for a 21st century house is the goal to be developed. In another way,
this might mean as turning back to the very beginning of building.

Maison Bourdeaux is a House Build for a Person in weelchair, where everything turn around an elevator, which allow you to reach point, unreacheable without.
One of this is the huge library.

The initial concept was the accessibility, the thinking that everybody can use everything, so i decide to divide this big unreacheable library in some little design libraries, and divide them by funcion:

-In the kitchen i think to put a moveable cooking-table, the height of this starting from 70 cm to 90 cm. Inside there are 2 library which contain all the cooking books.
-In the bedroom the headboard of the bed was thought like a library. There are also two little “reading desk” that can be moved up and down, or can be a desk for putting your laptop.
-in the studio i put a desk that is thought to has all you need for your study: there are three drawers which can contain books or what you need, a big plane and a little higher plane which can be moved back and forward on the table, there is also a magazine holder on the right side.
- The hammock is the "jolly piece" to put where you want; a place to read in relax, it has everything you need, a light and an integrated library.

Maison bourdeaux is perfect like this, so the idea is to build something that doesn't change it, but to insert some design idea to integrate with it.
So with little changes the house can change the function, but not the form.

In the new Villa Bollen, one of the most important requires is working. So the workplace is a vital and must be perfectly lit.

In the first detail proposed a zenith light, in which light was passing away, there was no obstacle in its path. The space maintaining a level of semi-darkness that contrasts with the light beam from above.

Rethinking the idea, this time I'm working the idea of light differently. Now the light will influence from multiple openings, each with different light levels. It may regulate the light and open all openings or not, depending on the interest of the moment.

Starting from a fully translucent roof, I created a set of panels that allow refine and modify the effects of natural light.Wood panels slide through guides placed on two facing walls. This way we will have at each time the light we wish.

Light= Position of the sun light + movement panels

Bonsai is a centuries-old form of art, but in this case, it’s using as a therapy. It’s necessary studied the space that the old man may need and know his limitations of movement and agility.

One of the most necessary things for the care of bonsai is the amount of sunlight received. Not all bonsai need the same amount of light or can't receive direct sunlight for a long period of time.

Analysis of the incidence of sunlight. First detail.

Second detail.
To meet the needs of UV of the different bonsai we need to control the time that affect it. Therefore, a gap is created in the box structure with a wood raised so that its opening is adjustable and its focus to determine where the most energy will be concentrate.
This takes practically entire length of the box and leaves space for maintaining the structure and configuration of the prism.

Constructive detail

The path of the sun is analyzed to carry out a transformation of the house. If we see the sun angle over time and the position, we can find the prism that create the intersection of its rays with the cube.
With this, we can design specific furniture for every variety of bonsai, according to the light they need.

When we rewrite the history of Villa Bollen, we invented a number of needs that this family needs. Both parents and children of this family were lovers of nature (especially tulips) and tried to spend as much time as possible to its cultivation, care and observation because this will bring great peace of mind.

As the children now were architects and spent most of the day working in his office, had no time to dedicate to nature.
With my first detail, after studying the growth and maintenance of these plants, I created a mechanism similar to an elevator / planter in introducing these plants. Over the days, from planting to grow tulips, the elevator going down his height, so that the son from his work chair would always direct eye flowers, giving this club and a possible disconnection their work.

After rethinking the idea, and the reworking of the detail, I want to connect with nature workspace more daring to put plants inside the office. In addition, the office often come people do not know if the plants are to your liking.
Therefore propose a new mechanism, in which one wall of the office, is folded at the moment when the child desired, leaving the clearance become a kind of balcony.
The nature come into the house not only visually, but also may feel the smell, the air, producing true wellness.

The contribution of the new house, consists of a movable wall that moves through a mechanism of iron bars. The wall may be 90 ° so that it becomes a balcony facing outside. It can also remain horizontal to the ground, thus being able to touch nature.

Furthermore, on the advice of my colleagues, I designed a sort of awning wound on the top of the front of the house, so when the weather conditions are good and the inhabitant wants to continue enjoying nature.
The sheet or a plastic coating is very thin and transparent.

To be the technical detail of the house I thought in a hold type in which the conservation of the wine bottles becomes the best; I wanted giving to the bottles a good inclination for the wine cork should always be wet as well as we can see the label of the bottles to know easier the name or type of the wine.

After reflecting on the house I thought to connect the vineyard directly with it and use that kind of tunnel or cave as a warehouse; so the technical detail is a section of the tunnel in which we view how the bottles are posted inside the warehouse.

Paco Mejías said to me that I should think how to be the warehouse to can put on this house, I shouldn´t make only a simple warehouse which can be used anywhere; however I think that the connection between the vineyard and the house makes this warehouse can be only for this house, so I want to propose that connection.

The most important evolution of my proposal has been the situation of the tunnel which connect the vineyard with the house; now, this connection is through the ruins, making the underground becomes metaphorically over time creating a ‘time warp’ after which we see how mature the wine since it is bottled up until it acquiring the force needed to be tasted.

FIRST DRAWING.
Originaly the detail drawing was about some modifications in the painting box. These were a window in each wall of the cube an two storage.

SECOND DRAWING,

Then, the drawing was more focused on the drawing table. As the type of paint used to be used were watercolors there was unnecesary to have to much inclination on the paper, but it is to much comfortable to have some, although it is necessary to can leave it without any inclination in order to dry without slipping paint.

FINAL DRAWING

This system allows users to customize the drawing medium height and inclination.
The cube has a window that allows the entry of natural light, when the user is about to paint only has to swing the window and place it in the position that is most comfortable. Due to a security system incorporated in the table bowler will remain fixed in the position that the user wishes.
Being a transparent table could be placed under a lamp to use this also as a tracing table.

First Detail:

In the first detail, part of the system that produced the sound was quite simplified and this could not been moved by the owner of the house to try to change the sound, and he hadn’t the possibility of being closed by some mechanism, preventing the owner's choice, and even prevents us vary it by changing orientation.

This made it quite hard, however for new detail, I’m trying to solve this problem improving the system of obtaining sound, making it more efficient and allowing better ventilation in the slot, and giving it the ability to rotate these gadgets, allowing the user to play the various sounds and besides giving the possibility to silence whenever he wants.

I upload some preliminary sketches about the idea, and the mechanism I have in mind to do it, even though at first I thought of a simple lever to allow rotation, it would be too rude, so I thought of this mechanism Scotch Yoke ( I don’t know if this is the translation, but look at the video if you don’t know what it is) ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IiqR8fEEnzA ) to allow that the user interacts with the sounds easily

Bueno seguimos

I think I have a clear idea about I want to achieve with it, but tell me what you think. I have more questions about the constructive way. I don’t know what I should have to choose, if gears or levers.

Keep working

The theme of the original detail was the creation of a construction detail for Legé house in order to combine two concepts, music and nature, making the former is generated by the second, producing a series of tunes from wind. In this second detail, we go a step further in terms of adding a third variable, make available to the user control of the interaction that we have mentioned above, may vary it at will and greatly improves the system that translates the wind in melody.

1st idea.

My detail is a air chamber of 1 meter and a double protection UV glass because UV is so dangerous for the wine when it is inside the bottles. This bottles are in a cave, near the ruins of the Baiao house and you can enter to this cave from the ruins.

Paco Mejía said to me that this detail doesn't have precission, so introduce the direcction of the UV ray is a possible solution to do an accurate draw.

The next draw can have a better composition (with a plant and another section) and more directions ray of the different seasons of the year, like put on Dec, Jun, Sep/ March.

The last detail includes all the developments that have been suffering from the first, which did not include UV rays. In the second one ray detail appeared and remained vague, so I decided to fill it with another 2 more (solstices and equinoxes) and including the plant and a cut for complete the draw which also explain the winery added.

First Detail

One of the cardboard boxes gets modified to create a small reading room by removing one of the walls and the top of the box. By adding one shelf and one chair to the space, it acquires a completely different program, and now the father can enjoy his books here.

                                          First detail section

Re-thinking

The new detail comes from a re-thinking process. I saw that with the first detail the father could only enjoy the reading when the house was empty, because it's an open space and maybe if his wife was meetting with her friends the conversation sounds could disturb him.
So I decided that the space had to be enclosed, but without losing the visual permeability of the house. We all know that reading is an activity that requires silence, so we can focus on the history we are trying to read. The new box maintains its top and one of the walls changes its position. Now we find two wide methacrylate panels -glass panels would make the box to heavy to be moved- that insulate the space without losing the light provided by the translucent walls of the house.

Second Detail

Final Detail

With the help of people who posted comments in my Details, I reached the conclusion that, keeping the modifications of the Second Detail, the box should be able to acquiere a major level of intimacy when the user requested. I think that the most effective solution is a curtain system with a translucent fabric, which allows the light to cross through it, but not the image.
On the other hand, I also saw that to be completely operational by night, the box should be provided with some kind of enlightenment. As the box is moving into the home space, a conventional system doesn´t work since the cable would make it impossible. So, taking advantage of the building´s unique-translucent enclosure, I propose a small solar panel set in one of the walls, which will store that energy to be used by a LED bulb by the night.
Finally, this bulb goes inside an extensible lamp, so the user can adapt it to the accurate height.

First Detail Section...

Preliminary section overview - The books create the library. The idea was initially that rather than a structure for a library or an installation of sorts; the client or occupant of the building would be free to choose how their activity of reading was to be carried out, allowing them to use the books to create the environment that they felt appropriate for them. It was intended to be both flexible and generate freedom.

This is the first detail, it was intended to show the floor meeting the void at which the books had been used to create seating for the person reading. Although, since then much has changed to develop the concept. The level of detail will also be improved...

Second drawings soon ...

Overview of the grand scheme in section...

Maison a Bordeaux
Plan of the concept; activity is reading formulated from the cultural concept of accessibility.

Section Overview...

Section 1, the internal reading space...

The place to create your own reading environment...

The concept originated from accessibility and the need to access information, reading being the important factor here. The original propose was for a design whereby the client themselves are in control of the reading environment that they create using the books as a building material. However, this on first thought was seen as too theoretical. Therefore, I proposal a spiral book shelf that spans the height of the void in Maison a Bordeaux, like a huge column so books can be accessed anywhere. The library form, consumes the client within it with the suspended walkways. Like with the original concept I have allowed space for people to still create their preferred reading environment on the outside using books to create a seat or for children build a 'den' out of books to read in...they books are the building fabric of the imagination and reality.

First Detail.
The continuity of the soil, and the importance of this makes life in Japanese culture, this is done in everyday life, and the familiar habit of sitting on cushions on the floor. Uniting in one Japanese tradition and westernization of this, we propose a "puff" fully integrated into the ground. In this way it could be much more comfortable to sit on a cushioned surface to sit directly on the roof. This puff is proposed for an area of the house engaged in the meeting, after dinner stage in which visitors to the house guests to chat. The materials for this intervention would be an insulator to protect the original flooring and carpet, filling the hole with ball eps.

Second Detail
After a second interpretation of the first detail, we note that, by including the small mounds breaks ground continuity. Therefore a solution is proposed which has the same functionality above and that continuity is not lost. We therefore propose a changing system, and camouflaged, thus a camouflaged trapdoor in the floor of the hollow puff, now, for better camouflage, the system changes, and now comprises an air chamber, which is filled air injected by a pump that is situated on the outside of the house. Thus, when in use, do not need to be present, and can move the cubes on the floor.

"General distribution of the installation"

"Technical Detail". Filling process and
deformation of puff

The main function is to create a changeable, continuous and can be camouflaged. The metal frame that holds the pavement, includes an anchoring system for hiding parts installation. Each piece equals a poof, least three hiding inside a futon. They are made with vinyl. Installation is completed by individual air valves, to suit the weight they will hold. The opening convinations the puff can be infinite, it is not necessary to remove all the pieces, to open a single puff.

Claudia Carrisi

The harvest time is very important in the production cycle of the wine, it reflects almost a sense of tradition of this activity so long-lived. You need the experience and the ability to understand what is good for a good wine and what is not. For the harvest, which is the initial stage of the production of wine, you have a few tools, including the box to gently store a bunch of grapes. My initial idea was to use these boxes as chairs when not needed, thus becoming useful. I wanted to highlight another important aspect of the harvest, which is the value of collective moment. In fact, the sense of wine for the House in Baiao was to make the activity as element that ties the family. In particular, this time coming in the autumn, is one of the  more fun, but also tiring of wine.

So the detail has evolved at a time when I wanted to create some real islands where you can rest during the grape harvest, using the wooden crates as a design element. You can sit on the boxes by placing them one above the other, the same to create the tables where you can taste the grapes or refresh. So the family can enjoy the pleasure of the vineyard, the landscape and clean air. The vineyards are located along the terraces, connected by stairs.

The grape harvest is a very important moment in the process of wine production, main activity of the House in Baiao. My intervention aims to enhance this moment, in particular its ability to bring people together, because the whole family can participate in the collection. This activity is very busy, so I thought to make it more enjoyable to create islands surrounded by vineyards, where you can relax or enjoy the freshly picked grapes along with all the participants. The furniture will be made simply by wood boxes used for the collection, but think in a way that they fit both overlapping that by laying them on the side of the other. the terraces are connected by stone stairs to the wooden platforms where you can create your own space.

First Detail

Explanation of First Detail
The cause of focusing on the terrace part of the whole house is that under the thema of coexistence, the part is most interpenetrate section between nature and architecture. The approach of first detail is based on adapting users as required to evolution. According to criticism which came for me, I propose a new detail of handrail which is intagrated with philosophy of music. Besides, when the process of application, the following thought should have fit the purpose of  cultural adaptation or re-reading story as to evolution.

New Detail

Explanation of New Detail
To be adapted of nature to house and generating the music which are the primary criterions of design. I designed a new detail of handrail from glass to nature creates sounds. In Cap-Ferret which is location of house in France, the main wind is mistral which comes from sea. In other saying is from southeast to northwest. When the air current passes within the special design of piece of handrail, the sounds occur as like as music of Africa. Because, the pieces are designed like basing upon one of traditional enstruments of Africa whose name is 'ivory horn'. These pieces are put in rectangular glass handrail with regular spacing. As a conclusion creating music with special solution complete the idea of coexistence again.
