Sergio Navarro García

First Detail.
The continuity of the soil, and the importance of this makes life in Japanese culture, this is done in everyday life, and the familiar habit of sitting on cushions on the floor. Uniting in one Japanese tradition and westernization of this, we propose a "puff" fully integrated into the ground. In this way it could be much more comfortable to sit on a cushioned surface to sit directly on the roof. This puff is proposed for an area of the house engaged in the meeting, after dinner stage in which visitors to the house guests to chat. The materials for this intervention would be an insulator to protect the original flooring and carpet, filling the hole with ball eps.

Second Detail
After a second interpretation of the first detail, we note that, by including the small mounds breaks ground continuity. Therefore a solution is proposed which has the same functionality above and that continuity is not lost. We therefore propose a changing system, and camouflaged, thus a camouflaged trapdoor in the floor of the hollow puff, now, for better camouflage, the system changes, and now comprises an air chamber, which is filled air injected by a pump that is situated on the outside of the house. Thus, when in use, do not need to be present, and can move the cubes on the floor.

"General distribution of the installation"

"Technical Detail". Filling process and
deformation of puff

The main function is to create a changeable, continuous and can be camouflaged. The metal frame that holds the pavement, includes an anchoring system for hiding parts installation. Each piece equals a poof, least three hiding inside a futon. They are made with vinyl. Installation is completed by individual air valves, to suit the weight they will hold. The opening convinations the puff can be infinite, it is not necessary to remove all the pieces, to open a single puff.

  1. Good idea Sergio! For me it's very interesting the study of the way to live the house in Japanese culture. Maybe you can deepen two different things: the material, the structure of this hidden pillow or can be interesting to know how this kind of pillow can change the way to live the house that you are studying. Japanese design is very minimal, so how can be useful your project in your house? Maybe your drawing have to explain this. Good job!

In my opinion, your draw has evolved and I think it is a great idea that these “pufs” can be folded and adapted to the required needs. I believe that an interesting picture would be one which showed the puf’s movement since it is folded until it adopts the seat’s shape.

  3. In my opinion your work has suffered a very important leap forward. In the first draw I didn't understand why the puf was fixed to the floor but, right now, with your proyect, you are saving lot of space making that puf can be dismountable. Congratulations.

  4. Good job Sergio!

I think it's a very good idea. First at all , what material are you going to use for your "inflatable seats"? As a bubble? the simplest and also minimalist. It would be nice to know what shape they have with no one sitting on and then, as you draw, with someone sitting on. See how is deformed the structure with weight.
